YEAR 2

What a busy start to the term with a lot of activities happening at school e.g. Mother’s Day, Ramadan activities/competitions, Safety Squad incursion, breakfast program to name a few. The students have been so enthusiastic and have enjoyed participating in all of them.

In English this term, our focus in writing is “Procedural Text.” Students have been writing procedures. We made playdough in class, made party hats and students had to write the steps on how they made them. The comprehension activities have also been based on procedural texts. Please practise extra activities at home too so that the students become confident with the structure of a procedure. Some of the examples could be:

Making Fairy Bread

Making a Jam Sandwich

How to Make a Paper Plane

How to Brush Your Teeth etc

In Maths, students have been learning subtraction strategies which involved making tens first to subtract and also the use of number lines.

During STEM this term, students have been creating lego models using instructions provided. It has been challenging at times but they still eagerly look forward to Thursday afternoons. Playing with lego is known to have amazing benefits for the development of fine motor skills, and strength in the fingers. It also promotes social interaction, turn-taking skills, sharing and collaborative problem-solving.

Please continue reading with your child at home as it is extremely important for them to read for at least 20 minutes every night.

Wish you all a very Happy Eid!
